Girl Power! It ain’t a reference for the Spice Girls, nor a shout driven by female emancipation. What is it so? Well, the first feature-length documentary film about girls painting graffiti.

Anyone who has been following me for a while should have picked up somehting about Roa before. I blogged about his work when I visited Doel last year for instance. I mean, his work is marvelous, plain awesomeness, if you ask me and many others, and you have definitely seen pieces of him throughout several cities. The style & technique of this Ghent-based spray-can handler is also so different. Layer upon layer, black, white, grey, black, black,  bit more grey, … Hard to explain (definitely if you are a nitwit like myself) but I suggest you take a look at following time-lapse to get an idea of how it works. All I can say is that Roa is way to modest when it comes to recognizing his talent.

I have known (about) Roa ever since I had the pleasure to meet him at an event I organized almost 2 years back. Its since that day I was fascinated by his work and always wanted to get a piece done by him. An honor I must say as he does not really like to place pieces privately indoors on one hand and on the other his work often does not fit the atmosphere. Surprisingly he was up for it and after having spent some hours talking with Roa I decided not to write a whole lot about it and let the piece speak for itself …

Growing up as a kid I was relatively interested in art. There was the art class, which failed to uncover my artistic talent, with its semi-history education program. Picasso, Ensor, Dali, that Dutch dude which cut of his ear, … all pretty nice I guess but none which could inspire me. It was Keith Haring though who grabbed my attention. His art was different and appealed to a kid like me. It simplicity. Its social critic with a smile. Judge for yourself.

I used to spend hours drawing his stuff on roughs, tracing, coloring in, … Thinking about it, I guess my love for street art started with Haring. No Banksy, Obey, Toykyo, … for me without Haring. And then I read that its been 10 20 years already since he passed away. A great loss. Out.

The Bubble Project drew my attention once again today. Its been around for a while but thought I’d share it for those who have never seen. Over 50,000 bubble stickers have been printed. They have been continually placed on top of ads on the streets of New York. They are left blank, inviting passersby to fill them in. This project instantly transforms the intrusive and dull corporate monologues into a public dialogue. Our public spaces are returned back to the public. Since its launch in 2002, the Bubble Project has become a global project. Bubblers all around the globe are bubbling their own towns.

How to take part yourself is rather easy, as they have provided ready to use speech bubbles. So take to the streets and start adbusting away. Out.

The Hello Project is an online social collaboration giving people the chance to say hi, hello, or hola on one of today’s most common yet neglected canvases: the Post-it®. A description that does not need a lot more explaining as how it works is rather simple. People can take a regular 3×3 (yellow) post-it note and write, sketch, doodle (or however you feel like) a version of hello. You then scan it and email it to hi@thehelloproject.com, and they will post it for everyone to see on their nifty little site.

It was a total coincidence I ended up finding this site and loved it right after seeing the first sketchy drawings people had mailed on through. It reminds me of another project I once blogged about, called paperbeatsinternet.com by the way.

Anyways you can always fan yourself for the project over on facebook just as you can fan yourself for OOTB. Out.

Might have mentioned it before, but A Love Letter for You is a great art project. The fact being its this time of year again one must admit there can never be enough love. Having said that, I taught I would share this one de nouveau.

Love Letter is a public art project which Stephen Powers together with the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program. It consist of a series of 50 rooftop murals throughout the city. Together they express a love letter from a guy to a girl, from an artist to his hometown, and from local residents to their West Philadelphia neighborhood. A project which touches anyone who has loved.

I added some of my favorites, but there are many more murals which you can check overhere and here and there. Out.
