Been MIA for a couple of weeks so got some backlash when it comes to my words of the day. As you might know/have read, (almost) every single day – when I don’t forget – I post a word of the day on twitter, inspired by my Urban Dictionary Calendar.

Conintuing the tradition in 2012 with a fresh stack I reckon I need to do a quick catch-up for my slacking. What follows are some of the best words I saw the past weeks

nap mouth - The bad taste in your mouth just after waking up from a nap.

time vampire - Something or someone who literally sucks your time like a vampire sucks blood.

seat gypsie - A person or group of people that travel from one unclaimed seat to another (normally at sporting events) because their cheap asses couldn’t fork up the money for better seats. Said people are forced to move once seats are claimed by the rightful ticket holders.

nomonym - When you eat something and it tastes like something else.

cheappuccino - Any of the wide variety of flavored coffee drinks offered at convenience stores that can be purchased for less than half the price of a coffeehouse cappuccino.

X-rayted - TSA rating for airport, naked body scan images.

thrift whore -  person who shops at many different thrift stores, thereby often finding wonderful deals.

testicular fortitude - balls, guts, intestinal fortitude

dweet - Twitter tweet sent when drunk. A drunk tweet

airport vultures - Passengers waiting to board a plane who stalk around near and clog up the boarding gate before a flight, regardless of where their seat is or when boarding actually is.

masturdating - Going out alone. I.e. seeing a movie by yourself, going to a restaurant alone.

party claim - Objects left at a party may be claimed by the host.

pornocchio - A person who embellishes their sexcapades to sound cooler.

economic vegetarian - Only eating Vegatables because you can’t afford to buy meat.

dish envy - Sudden, intense longing and regret derived from watching a particularly appetizing dish being delivered to a nearby table.

Gunshots, people running mad in the street and lots of cheers yesterday as Spotify deployed  its services in Belgium. Or was it just twitter and my facebook wall that got flooded with Spotify related content? All I know is that lots of people were giving Spotify their praise while other unhappy hipsters were calling the music service evil and complaining about some ads that passed by every now and then?

I must admit I had been using Spotify, through a loophole in their system, for a while already. It was accesible, without any ads in between the streams, as they still had to officially get started in Belgium. Now the people from Spotify blessed  me with a premium account. No ads, unlimited access to their service on- & offline … I will extensively use this throughout the next weeks, test their service in on the road with the ol’ trusty iphone, … but reckon I already know the outcome as I have already learned that € 9,99 a month for unlimited access to their database on- & offline is not a lot of money.

For the readers who haven’t tried it out, its pretty easy Just hit the download Spotify app button, install and log in with your facebook account (OH NO, not my facebook account?! Yes, you can only log in with you facebook account and it works like a charm.) Next all you have to do is sit back and enjoy some fresh or older tunes.

Kid Robot & Swatch have been a favorites of mine for a while so I could not have been more delighted to see yet another collab as this take place. I had been longing for one of my own for a while … et voila

Its Frank Kozik‘s (his name by creating full-color silk screened posters for various legendary rock bands of the 90s) contribution to the collection. ”I wanted to make the designs as clean as possible,” he explains “I like Swatch for its plastic future sense.”

Last week I happened to hear see that Sneakerpedia (which we previously had mentioned) draw lots of attention as it finally got launched. Love the project & idea behind it as it finely illustrates the sneaker mania that is picking up momentum everyday. A great idea and way of documenting this phenomenon anyways.

Besides the authentic collector pur sang there are also a lot of sneaker addicts out there who will do just about anything to show off their love for sneakers. Having said so, over the past few weeks videos featuring sneakerheads doing some extraordinary things have emerged online. Amongst which this great example of sneaker street art in Paris.

It has been inspired by Foot Locker, who in order to celebrate the global Sneaker Movement and capture all of its enthusiasm, has set up www.itsasneakerthing.eu, a hub for passionate people to come and share their passion for sneakers! I have gone through some pretty awesome contributions/content and must say I favourited the Lace Street Art most until now.

After having teased us for a while with a battery of short clips, Adidas dropped their latest worldwide campaign and we are digging the whole Gavras x Justice x Adidas collab. Just like their previous ones, Adidas calls in a couple of friends with Lionel Messi, B.o.B, Beckham, Katy p Perry, Ed Banger and Derrick Rose amongst many other.

Great to see mixed reactions amongst several mad men when it comes to the new Adidas campaign. Maybe they have got a different mindset as Adidas definitely slam-dunked this one in my opinion.

Soundtrack is “Civilization” from the new Justice album which should drop in April.

Dupstep, often people love it or they hate it and lately I happen to find myself tuning into to it more often as I would have thought a while back. I reckon it grows upon you and as with all music, there’s as much good as there is awfull stuff.

A while back I also happened to get a hold on BASSWEIGHT, a feature length documentary that offers an unparalleled insight into the subterranean world of Dubstep. Having found the time to watch it last week we just had to mention this one as we enjoyed watching it.

Now the documentary isn’t all that spectacular, but its a nice piece of work and never seems to bore as the emphasis throughout the doc is not dubstep’s current success but rather dubsteps growth from its obscure origins in south London to global recognition today. It tries to give you an understanding on the mentality and context of the people and its scene at the moment everything started to grow and how & where everything will grow to in the future.

In order to do so, it features in-depth interviews with many of the DJ’s, producers and promoters who have been instrumental in the genres ongoing evolution: Skream, Benga, Kode9 and Mary Anne Hobbs are just a few amongst many others.

Besides this it also pays attention to the scene’s impressive spread across Europe, Brazil and Japan, demonstrating the impact artists have had on an international level. Or how underground music can still be relevant in this 21st Century.

The project was created by Joris Debeij, a European currently residing in LA, who wants to document the city through portraits of intriguing and unique personalities living there. Each single one on people who found a specific niche for themselves in a city of millions.

Salvador Preciado has lived in East LA for most of his life. Growing up, he always was impressed by the tattoos worn by local gang members and he later decided to become a full-time tattoo artist. Sal is now the proud owner of El Clasico Tattoo, a tattoo shop in Echo Park.

Sean Martin has been riding bikes for over ten years. He started out on a BMX and now feels “one” with his fixed-gear bike while riding through the streets of LA.

Imagine this: There are mature fruit trees planted and cared for all over your neighborhood, so you can just pick fresh fruit and enjoy it as you walk down the street, without ever needing to go hungry. The guys of Fallen Fruit started 7 years ago as a one-time project that involved mapping out the locations of public fruit trees.

We mentioned this already a couple of times , but pleased to read that “Skateistan: To Live and Skate Kabul” made the Sundance Film Festival among this year’s short film program which features a great 9-minute documentary on the park, including brief interviews with the manager and young people who skate there.

For those of you that never heard about this before, Skateistan is an unregular skate park in Kabul, Afghanistan. The project was started by two Australian aid workers who began giving skating as well as educational lessons to more than 350 kids in Kabul.

When you regularly read blogs and/or surf the web you usually have heard of the following fella: Scott Schumann, aka, the sartorialist who shares photos and experiences from his daily life with over 70,000 readers each day.

Couple of people asked me if I had any 2011 resolutions. Answer at first was no, but I had totally forgotten my #wordoftheday project.

As I got the urban dictionary day to day calendar I will be tweeting a #wordoftheday every day throughout the (working) week. Curious to see what will pop up amongst the our newly adopted lingo

Met some great people, had some great experiences, (re)discovered artists, heard some great mixtapes, saw wonderfull street art, got some (product) reviews up and overall featured some great content (although it was not always that great ).

Concertwise we had a good year, with highlights being a studio session by MGMT, the Prodigy concert in Lille, a showcase by Janelle Monae, Chromeo in BXL and the Gorillaz concert in Antwerp.

We also crossed the border several times. Ended up visiting London for Young Scum and ended up there two weekends in a row due to circumstances, went to Paris for the Offf Festival, where we got to stay in the great Hidden Hotel. After that we topped this all off with held a midsummer roadtrip to Croatia & Slovenia before finishing the summer with a quick visit to Amsterdam.

Started reading again in between this all and did some home brewing before finishing everything of with some family time in MT.

As you can see, we ended up sharing all these experiences and still this ended up being the blogpost which read the most throughout the entire year.

All we can say, 2010 has been a blast and who would have thought we would be able to have done it all from one of the greatest cities in the world! Have a great time going from old to new and we’ll see each other once again in 2011! Out with the old one says!

For those amongst you who had not previously heard about POSTRmagazine, its a free quarterly magazine printed on an A1 size poster which then gets folded and distributed all over the world to selected art centres, concert halls, shops and certain restaurants as a free magazine. An authentic concept which comes as a poster because they would like you to put them up. On your front door, your kitchen window, your bedroom ceiling or even nailed to the door of your local city hall. You can read their extensive mission statement/about overhere. I suggest you do, as its something to ponder upon.

Now the latest issue, nº 8, has been published:

They have been around for a while now (celebrated their first anniversary couple of weeks ago) as musical curators, and we can only assume that they will remain a definite OOTB approved weapon of choice as they continue to grow across the web. When we think about Shanghai, skateboarding is not the first thing that pops up in our minds. Considering the size of the city (and how mad Chines kids can be) there must be one crazy scene. Hell, they’re even skateboarding in Afghanistan.

So check out the video above, its a short on the skateboarding in Shanghai. One of the nicer ones we’ve seen in a while. In the meantime, stay out of trouble.

I remember when 2001 came out like it was yesterday. Thinking back on this and realising its been 10 years makes it even harder to grasp. Dre is a legend, one of the pioneers when it comes to bringing rap to “suburbia”. I remember how many heads went ring ding dong in the early nineties & seeing N.W.A on MTV. I remember it was Dre & Pac’s California Love that got sudden massive airplay together with Blackstreet’s No Diggity. Then 2001 followed with Still DRE, becoming a clubbing all-time classic anthem.

Where Kanye might have dropped one of the albums in years (or that’s what I hear/read) Dre’s Detox is probably the most anticipated  album (damn it’s raps Chinese Democracy!!) of the decade. A final chapter for which Kush has been released with a fitting viddy. Ain’t sure what to make of it yet, but curious to see how everything turns out.

Death Shred are the guys we formarly knew as Dead Serious! but due to some f*cked up laws the guys had to change their name. But hey, what;s in name right? Soon we will be sporting some new apparel straight out of laundry basket.

When it comes to gaming consoles I stopped at the SuperNintendo (although we once also had a Nintend0 64 & Sega we had found lying around on the curb) and I must admit the SNES still rocks anno 2010. Nothing fancy, the simplicity of the games and the hunt for new games. I have spent a lot of time walking around flee markets, surfing the interwebs for the best games and its still all hooked up to the TV as we speak.

I must admit though, there is nothing that beats a good fight amongst friends with Honda, Blanka or any other Street Fighter character or some classic Mario. All for the love of NINTENDO

Discovered Derek Hess‘ artwork years back through Gigposters.com (which we’ve talked about before).

Hess’ work is well-known within certain scenes as it has been used for concert posters, album covers, … but also way too cool tattoos which pop up every now and then.
