We mentioned this already a couple of times , but pleased to read that “Skateistan: To Live and Skate Kabul” made the Sundance Film Festival among this year’s short film program which features a great 9-minute documentary on the park, including brief interviews with the manager and young people who skate there.

For those of you that never heard about this before, Skateistan is an unregular skate park in Kabul, Afghanistan. The project was started by two Australian aid workers who began giving skating as well as educational lessons to more than 350 kids in Kabul.

When we think about Shanghai, skateboarding is not the first thing that pops up in our minds. Considering the size of the city (and how mad Chines kids can be) there must be one crazy scene. Hell, they’re even skateboarding in Afghanistan.

So check out the video above, its a short on the skateboarding in Shanghai. One of the nicer ones we’ve seen in a while. In the meantime, stay out of trouble.

SK8FACE is a still to be released documentary on how skateboardart evolved through time and how it changed skateboarding. “Where did skateboard graphics come from? How did they evolve?” The documentary brings original footage together with interviews off artists who started the format, collectors and fans.

Read a couple of interesting articles on the return of pool skating in the US over at Radcollector.com and the NY Times. Seems due to the financial crisis and the foreclosure of a lot of houses, swimming pools are being drained. This is resulting in kids climbing over fences of abandoned houses in search of a great skateboarding. It even seems skaters are heading to the US from across the globe in order to enjoy the authentic drained pools.

In this day and age it even seems kids are very resourcefull when it comes to finding abandoned pools. They’re surfing the web in search of real estate that’s for sale or use Google Earth. The aerial photos give them an idea where to find drained pools. At Skateandannoy.com, skateboard fanatic also share all relevant info with each other.

Anyhow today I found myself listening to M83 and this reminded me of the intro for Fully Flared. Fully Flared is a skateboarding flick brought to us by Lakai. Its propably one of the most impressive and expensice skate films ever made. The intro alone is impressive.

The directors and production went all out in this movie. Pyro technics, special effects, great music… It is no wonder that Spike Jonze was also involved in the project. You might know him as one the men behind Jackass.
